Michael Allard

Senior Vice President of Client Relations

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Allard was a Vice President and Regional Sales Manager for Wells Fargo Private Client Services.

At Wells Fargo Private Client Services, Mr. Allard introduced high net worth individuals and families to specialized services including trust and estate administration, retirement planning, charitable giving and private banking.

Prior to Wells Fargo, he held various positions for ten years with Charles Schwab & Co. including Regional Sales Manager and Branch Manager. At Charles Schwab, Mr. Allard developed and implemented investment plans for high net worth individuals, families and non-profit organizations. As a branch manager, Mr. Allard organized, opened and managed the Soquel/Capitola retail office.

Mr. Allard earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from California State University, Chico.

John Almazan

Operations Associate

Mr. Almazan joined Scharf Investments in August 2014. He currently provides operational and administrative support to the firm.

Mr. Almazan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley in May 2014.

Sofia Balogh, CFA*

Operations Analyst

Ms. Balogh joined Scharf Investments in August 2013. She currently provides operational and research support to the firm.

Ms. Balogh earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California at Berkeley in May 2013.

Riley Barr

Relationship Manager

Mr. Barr joined Scharf Investments in February 2015. Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Barr worked as a Registered Associate for Merrill Lynch in San Francisco, California from 2012-2015. His duties included trading, distribution and custody, operations and relationship management. Mr. Barr began his career at Merrill Lynch in the wealth management division of their Eugene, Oregon branch in 2010.

Mr. Barr earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and a minor in Business Administration from the University of Oregon in 2010.

Jerry Beyke, CFA*

Senior Research Analyst, Investment Committee Member

Mr. Beyke began his career more than 20 years ago with Wallace R. Weitz & Co. Inc. as a security analyst.

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Beyke was a Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Carson Feltz and First Commerce Investors where he managed value oriented equity portfolios in discretionary accounts and a commingled fund. He also ran a successful Limited Partnership, Beyke Partners, as General Partner and Portfolio Manager.

Mr. Beyke has been a Member of the Association for Investment Management & Research since 1986.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Nebraska.

Annie Blackmun

Executive Administrative Assistant

Ms. Blackmun performs administrative and client service duties as an executive administrative assistant. She has a 17-year background in administrative and managerial roles for several corporations in the Santa Cruz area.

Ms. Blackmun earned an Associate of Arts degree from Cabrillo College in Aptos, California.

Jan Erbe

Operations, Client Service

Ms. Erbe performs operational and client service duties as an administrative assistant. She has a 22-year background in the finance industry, having worked in customer service and trust departments.

Jan earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Santa Barbara.

George R. Gallucci

Director of Client Relations

Mr. Gallucci has spent 33 years in the financial services industry. Before joining Scharf Investments in 1991, he was President and CEO of both Western Capital Management, a registered investment advisor, and Pacific Trust Company, both subsidiaries of Pacific Western Bank.

At Western Capital Management, Mr. Gallucci was responsible for the development of investment strategy, portfolio management, selection of individual securities, and all related trading activities.

At Pacific Trust Company, Mr. Gallucci was responsible for all fiduciary activities, account administration, and related tax, investment and legal compliance matters.

Mr. Gallucci earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management at San Jose University and graduated from the Pacific Coast Banking School at the University of Washington.

Jim Giblin

Operations Analyst

Mr. Giblin joined Scharf Investments in September 2016. Prior to joining Scharf, he was Senior Accountant for Passport Capital.

Mr. Giblin also worked as Senior Manager for Charles Schwab Investment Management. He began his career at State Street Corporation.

Michael Goody

Senior Research Analyst

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Goody was the Portfolio Manager of Dartford Capital Partners. Mr. Goody was also a Senior Analyst at Hawkeye Capital Management and has worked at The Blackstone Group, Morgan Stanley, and Deutsche Bank.

Mr. Goody graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Dartmouth College.

Kurt Grundner

Operations Specialist

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Grundner was the Trading Manager at Niemann Capital Management.

Prior to Niemann, Mr. Grundner was part of the domestic equity trading team at TIAA-CREF. He was also previously part of both the foreign currency and international equity trading teams at Barclays Global Investors. At BGI, he also managed development projects across various departments and international offices.

Mr. Grundner earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from the Haas School at UC Berkeley.

Gabe Houston, CFA*

Research Analyst, Head Trader, Investment Committee Member

Mr. Houston joined Scharf Investments in May 2006. In addition to his role of Research Analyst, he heads the trading team and provides operations support.

Mr. Houston earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management Economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 2006. Mr. Houston has earned his Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is a member of the CFA Society of San Francisco.

Joel Houston

Operations Associate

Mr. Houston joined Scharf Investments in August 2013. He currently provides operational and administrative support to the firm.

Mr. Houston earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Santa Cruz in June 2013.

Sam Kanagawa

Institutional Associate

Mr. Kanagawa joined Scharf Investments in August 2015. He currently provides administrative and operational support for the firm’s institutional relationships.

Mr. Kanagawa earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Business Management Economics and a minor in Technology Information Management from the University of California at Santa Cruz in June 2015.

Loren Kinczel

Managing Director, Investment Committee Member

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Kinczel performed equity research with both Farallon Capital Management L.L.C., a leading multi-billion dollar hedge fund, and Belden and Associates Investment Counsel, a registered investment advisor based in San Francisco.

Before launching his professional investment career, Mr. Kinczel worked with venture capitalist Richard Tahta on new enterprises serving the financial services industry. He has invested privately since 1994.

Mr. Kinczel graduated with honors from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and earned his MBA from the Haas School of Business at University of California, Berkeley.

Brian Krawez, CFA*

President, Investment Committee Chairman

Mr. Krawez began his career more than 20 years ago with Smith Barney in San Francisco and later moved to their investment banking division in New York City where he was ranked as a top-rated analyst focusing on health care.

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Krawez was a Partner and head of research for Belden and Associates Investment Counsel where he managed a successful large blend portfolio. He has also held research analyst positions at Dodge & Cox, Telegraph Hill Investment Counsel, and SC Fundamental, a successful value oriented hedge fund.

Mr. Krawez earned both a BS with honors in Business Administration and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley. While at UC Berkeley he worked for Professor Yellen, the current Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. Mr. Krawez is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the Security Analysts of San Francisco.

Eric Lynch

Managing Director, Investment Committee Member

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Lynch contributed research to Scharf Investments while he ran his own registered investment advisory firm, Lynch Capital Management, LLC.

Prior to founding Lynch Capital Management, he was Co-Chief Operating Officer, Research Analyst and Portfolio Manager at Polen Capital Management, a top-performing money manager. As Co-Chief Operating Officer, he led the firm’s institutional channel.

Prior to his investment career, Mr. Lynch spent several years as a management consultant to Fortune 500 companies with Accenture and Price Waterhouse-Japan.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude from John Carroll University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and a Concentration in Japanese. Mr. Lynch earned his MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Kate Magladry

Business Analyst

Ms. Magladry joined Scharf Investments in July 2016. She currently provides operational and research support to the firm.

Ms. Magladry earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Economics from the University of California at Santa Cruz in June 2016.

Jason Marcus

Chief Operating Officer, Chief Compliance Officer

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Marcus worked for Fairholme Capital Management as the Operations & Compliance Manager.  His previous roles at the firm included Execution Trader, Operations Specialist, Portfolio Accountant, and Client Administration Associate.  During his eight years at Fairholme he saw the firm grow by more than $15 Billion.

Mr. Marcus earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the Montclair State University School of Business in 2002 with a concentration in Management.

Lisa Pastushok

Compliance Analyst, Client Operations

Ms. Pastushok joined Scharf Investments in February 2015. Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Ms. Pastushok worked as an investment analyst for Nicholas Hoffman & Company, a registered investment advisory firm in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ms. Pastushok earned a Masters degree in Finance from Georgia State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Engineering Science from Vanderbilt University.

Samuel Pun

Client Relations Manager

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Pun led the client service efforts at Sonen Capital in San Francisco where he worked with high net worth individuals, foundations, and family offices to develop socially responsible and impact investing portfolios across public and private asset classes. He also worked for UBS’s International Division helping clients overseas manage and service their investment portfolios through offshore trusts. Mr. Pun began his career at Bank of America’s International Private Bank as a Relationship Service Manager.

Mr. Pun earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Davis in International Relations, and a Masters of Science degree in Financial Analysis from the University of San Francisco.

Debbie Robinson

Director of Client Relations

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Ms. Robinson worked for Mt. Eden Investment Advisors as a portfolio associate and equity trader. She also worked for Telegraph Hill Investment Counsel prior to their merger with Mt. Eden.  Her responsibilities included trading, operations, portfolio accounting, and client administration.  Ms. Robinson began her career in the Budget/Treasury department at Sonoma State University as a treasury analyst/accountant for the university investments.

Ms. Robinson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in Business Administration from Sonoma State University.

Ken Vander Kooi, CFP

Client Relations Manager

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Vander Kooi worked with high net worth individuals and families across a broad range of needs at the Portola Group, a financial planning and investment advisory firm in Menlo Park, California. His duties there included personal financial planning, tax reconciliations, trading, and relationship management. Mr. Vander Kooi began his career at Smith Barney in the operations department of their Palo Alto branch, which specialized in employee stock option transactions and high net worth retail accounts.

Mr. Vander Kooi is a graduate of the University of California at Santa Cruz with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Economics and Psychology.

Owen Warren

Research Associate

Mr. Warren joined Scharf Investments in August 2016. He currently provides investment research for the firm.

Mr. Warren graduated with first class honors from the University of Warwick in June 2016, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics with Study Abroad at the University of California, Berkeley.

Jeff Wilson, CFA*

Research Analyst

Prior to joining Scharf Investments, Mr. Wilson performed equity research with Freestone Capital Management, a $2.3B AUM asset manager in Seattle, WA. Prior to his six-year tenure at Freestone, Mr. Wilson was a research analyst for two years at ICM Asset Management in Spokane, WA.

Mr. Wilson holds B.A. from Gonzaga University, majoring in Accounting and Finance. He is also a CFA charter holder, member of the CFA Institute, and served on the CFA Society Seattle Board of Directors during the 2012-13 term.

Sean Wright

Trader & Operations Specialist

Mr. Wright joined Scharf Investments in March 2016. Prior to joining, he was the Head Trader and Performance Analyst for Trust & Fiduciary Management Services. Mr. Wright also worked as Director of Operations for Suncoast Equity and as Head Trader for Polen Capital, both in Tampa, FL. He began his career at Smith Barney, Harris Upham and also worked for Salomon Brothers.

Mr. Wright received his undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of South Florida and his MBA from the University of Miami.
